Football Falls at St. Norbert in Season Finale
DE PERE, Wis. – The Eureka football team closed out its season on Saturday afternoon at St. Norbert. The Red Devils struggled on both sides of the ball, falling 61-0.
St. Norbert jumped on Eureka early, scoring touchdowns on each of its first six offensive possessions, plus an interception return for a touchdown, to take a commanding 48-0 lead, which it held until halftime. The Red Devils' defense showed improvement in the second half, allowing just 13 points. However, the Eureka offense could not get anything going and ultimately lost 61-0.
For the second consecutive week, Beverson Noel (Lake Worth, Fla./Santaluces) led Eureka in tackles, setting a new career-high with 12 stops, including 8 solo tackles. He also recorded 2.5 tackles for loss totaling 23 yards. Nshimirimana Ezechiele (Atlanta, Ga./Druid Hills) matched his season-high with 11 tackles, 9 of them solo. Hansen Johnson (Laplace, La./East St. John) recorded 9 tackles, his most of the season. Brent Potts (Lantana, Ga./Lucy C. Laney) led the team with 3.5 tackles for loss, totaling 11 yards, and added 7 total tackles.
On offense, the Red Devils struggled throughout the game. Freshman quarterback Ethan Velazquez (Chicago, Ill./Prosser) made his first start of the season, completing 5 of 14 passes for just 18 yards.
Kimoni Davis (Spokane, Wash./Central Valley) was the Red Devils' top rusher, gaining 21 yards on 4 carries. Brandon Garner (Jonesboro, Ark./Jonesboro) had the next highest total with 9 yards.
Jayden Crowder (Springfield, Ill./Lanphier) led Eureka in receiving with 12 yards on 1 catch, while Nathanael Vroman (Hilliard, Fla./Hilliard) had 2 receptions for 8 yards.
Saturday's game marked the final appearance for Eureka's three seniors: Mondrel Boykins (Tunica, Miss.), Kaeden Frazier (Clarkston, Wash./Clarkston), and Angel Garcia (Elgin, Ill./Larkin), who were honored last weekend on Senior Night. Unfortunately for Frazier and Garcia, injuries cut their seasons short, but both players made substantial contributions to the Eureka football program. Frazier finishes his career ranked 11th in program history in passing yards, while Garcia ranks 15th in rushing yards, despite missing much of the 2024 season. Both plan to pursue graduate assistant positions as college football coaches, so this is likely not the last time we'll see them on the sidelines. Boykins, who completed his only season with the Red Devils with 22 receptions for 179 yards, hopes to continue his playing career after college, so Saturday may not be the last time we see him take the field.
The Red Devils finished the season with an 0-10 record and an 0-8 mark in NACC play during Randy Starks' first season as head coach. The team will look to make significant strides in the offseason, as Starks will have more time to recruit and build his roster.
