Football Suffers Defeat at Rockford

ROCKFORD, Ill. – The Red Devils hung around early but could not keep pace with the Regents in the final three quarters, ultimately falling 59-6 on Saturday afternoon.

Rockford started the scoring early with a touchdown on their opening drive. Eureka responded with a touchdown of its own on the ensuing possession, thanks to a 13-yard touchdown pass from Daniel Parhams (Columbus, Ga./Hardaway) to Jayden Crowder (Springfield, Ill./Lanphier). However, Eureka missed the extra point, allowing Rockford to maintain a 7-6 lead, which they carried into the second quarter. Unfortunately for Eureka, it was all Rockford from that point forward, as the Regents scored 52 unanswered points to finish the game.

Brent Potts (Lantana, Ga./Lucy C Laney) led the Red Devils defensively with 9 tackles, including 4 solo tackles. Nick Ruffin (Bloomington, Ill./Bloomington) recorded a career-high 8 tackles, with 5 solos, and contributed a team-high 3 pass breakups. Derrick Payton Jr. (West Seattle, Wash./O'dea) recorded the Red Devils' only sack of the day, marking his sixth of the season.

On the offensive side, Eureka amassed 226 yards on 60 plays, with 94 passing yards and 132 rushing yards.

Daniel Parhams made his first start at quarterback for the Red Devils, completing 13 of 23 passes for 94 yards. However, Parhams' biggest impact came from his legs, as he carried the ball 21 times for 103 yards, becoming the first player this season to surpass 100 rushing yards for the Red Devils.

Jayden Crowder contributed on the ground and through the air, recording 19 rushing yards on 5 carries, along with 5 receptions for 15 yards, and scoring the only touchdown of the day for Eureka.

Mondrel Boykins (Tunica, Miss./Rosa Fort) led all Eureka receivers with 49 yards on 3 receptions. Many of those yards came in the fourth quarter, when Parhams connected with Boykins for a 35-yard completion, the Red Devils' longest passing play of the afternoon.
