MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Ohio Wesleyan managed to hold off Eureka twice in a doubleheader in Memphis on Sunday.

The Battling Bishops got the edge over the Red Devils, 3-1, in the first game, then kept the Red Devils off the board in a 4-0 series finale.

Game 1: Ohio Wesleyan 3, Eureka 1

Ohio Wesleyan's Andy Anthony held Eureka to one earned run on six hits and one walk while striking out six in six innings, and Tyler Monaco recorded the save.

Eureka's lone run was a game-tying RBI single by Nick Rulevish (Addieville, Ill./Okawville) in the top of the third. Ohio Wesleyan regained the lead with a sac fly RBI in the bottom half, and then notched a third and final run in the fifth.

The Red Devils left a runner on five times and stranded two in the fifth after Garrett Flaagan (Eagle, Ill./Eagle Valley) and Brandt King (Stillman Valley, Ill./Stillman Valley) opened with back-to-back singles.

Braden Cox (Washington, Ill./Illini Bluffs/Black Hawk) went 2-for-3 for the Red Devils, while King went 2-for-2 with a walk.

Mike Dunne (Bartonville, Ill./Limestone/Lincoln Land) took his first loss of the season after only conceding three runs on nine hits and four walks and striking out three batters.

Game 2: Ohio Wesleyan 4, Eureka 0

Eureka notched six hits, but it felt nine stranded and unable to scratch one across.

Cole Tanner (Bartonville, Ill./Limestone/Knox) went 2-for-4. Brenden Eigenbrod (Lincoln, Ill./Lincoln/Lincoln College) delivered a double for his first hit as a Red Devil. Colin DeLaere (Pekin, Ill./Pekin) notched his first hit as well, and Rulevish and Chase Ulrich (East Peoria, Ill./East Peoria/Illinois Central College) each had a hit, too.

Eureka pitcher Ryan Bredeson (Washington, Ill./Washington) conceded just three earned runs on four hits and one walk in seven innings, and had three strikeouts.

Ohio Wesleyan's Parker Tomlin scored the win after pitching 6 2/3 innings of shutout ball and posting six strikeouts.
