Red Devils Take Second at SLIAC Women’s Wrestling Championship

CLARKSVILLE, Ark. – The Eureka women's wrestling team competed at the SLIAC Women's Wrestling Championship on Friday in Clarksville, Arkansas, landing seven wrestlers on the SLIAC All-Conference team. As a team, Eureka finished 2nd overall with 58.5 points. Schreiner claimed their second consecutive SLIAC title with 122 points.

Tayla Phillips had a standout performance, receiving a bye to the final and winning by decision to secure first place and become the SLIAC individual champion at 207 pounds.

At 131 pounds, Natallie Tobuk made a strong run to the finals, winning by fall in 3:34 in the semifinals before falling 10-0 by technical fall in the finals to claim second place.

McKenzie Cook (145 pounds) also earned second place, securing a win by fall in 1:42 in the semifinals before losing 7-2 by decision in the finals.

Sofia Kawano (103 pounds) reached the final after a bye but lost 13-2 by technical fall, finishing in second place.

At 160 pounds, Madison Farris received a bye to the final but was defeated 7-3 by decision, earning second place.

Kyley Bair (110 pounds) fell 5-1 by decision in the semifinals but won the third-place match by forfeit.

Alex Parks (180 pounds) finished in third place after a loss by fall in the semifinals.

"The women's team was highlighted by Tayla Phillips becoming the conference champion. I am very proud of the heart she put into her match," said Head Coach Eric Biehl. "This was a good test for our team as we look ahead to regionals next weekend."
