Eureka’s Gada Bryant Places Eighth at Indiana Tech

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Eureka women's wrestling team competed among a field of 20 teams at the Indiana Tech Warrior Women's Open on Saturday.

Gada Bryant (Westville, Ill./Westville/Lincoln) pinned Leah Pekar of Tiffin in one minute, one second in the consolation bracket and placed eighth overall at 109 pounds.

After picking up the Red Devils' lone win of the day, Albion's Gabby Motz scored a 10-0 tech fall over in the next round and Trine's Riley Morrison followed it with a 10-0 tech fall in the seventh-place match.

The rest of the Red Devils' grapplers went 0-2 on the day.

"Today's tournament we saw a lot of top NAIA teams," EC coach Eric Biehl said. "The girls started off slow, but we saw some flashes of competitiveness."

At 136, Claire Schaffner (Delavan, Ill./Delavan) lost by 10-0 tech fall against Tiffin's Tatiana Bermudez and Coleby Velasquez, respectively.

At 143, Audrey Driskell (Pekin, Ill./Pekin/Lincoln) opened the day with a 10-0 tech fall loss against Hiram's Allydia Byard, then dropped a competitive 8-3 decision against Hiram's Erika Novak.

At 155, Vannah Berry (Carol Stream, Ill./Glenboard North) went down by 12-0 tech fall against Leilani Martinez and by fall against Life University's Elizabeth Bound.

The Eureka women will be back in action next Sunday when the Red Devils compete in the Mckendree Open. After a weekend off, the men's squad are set to compete at the Dubuque Open next Saturday.
