ST. CHARLES, Mo. – For the first time in program history, the Eureka women's wrestling team competed in a duals tournament on Sunday.

The Red Devils took on six other squads at the Lindenwood Duals and had some encouraging results, including a 20-15 victory over Fontbonne.

"The scoreboard doesn't show the success we had today," EC wrestling coach Eric Biehl said. "Having a small team means we have to forfeit weights and we are usually down anywhere from 25-30 points before we even step on the mat against full teams.

"The girls made steps in the right direction in their individual wrestling. It was great to get so many matches on the mat for them."

McKenzie Cook (Homer, Ill./Homer/Lincoln) led the way for the Red Devils, going 3-1 at 155 pounds and notching three pins. Her only loss of the day was against Simposon College.

At 170, Lizzie Brooksher (St. Charles, Mo./St. Charles) went 4-1 on the day with a 6-2 decision over University of the Ozarks' Marisol Zapata. Gada Bryant (Westville, Ill./Westville/Lincoln) recorded three wins at 109.

Audrey Driskell (Pekin, Ill./Pekin/Lincoln) picked up a pair of wins at 143, while Claire Schaffner (Delavan, Ill./Delavan) and Vannah Berry (Carol Stream, Ill./Glenbard North) each had one win.

The Eureka women will be back in action on Saturday, Dec. 11 when they compete at the North Central Open.
