Volleyball Falls in Regular Season Finale

GREENVILLE, Ill. – The Eureka volleyball fell in straight sets to Greenville in their final game of the regular season, 16-25, 13-25, and 20-25.
The Red Devils held a 14-13 lead in the opening set, but the Panthers rallied to score 12 of the final 14 points and take the set. In the second set, Greenville jumped ahead early and never looked back, winning 25-13. Eureka stayed competitive in the final set, but after falling behind 22-20, Greenville scored three straight points to secure the set and the match. With the win, the Panthers clinched at least a share of the SLIAC regular-season title, which will become sole possession if they defeat Spalding on Saturday.
Alyssa Company (Lincoln, Ill./Lincoln Community) led the Red Devils with 10 kills and 6 blocks, while Maleaha Nagel (Abingdon, Ill./Abingdon-Avon) posted a season-high 5 blocks. Brooklyn Shell (Evansville, Ind./Mount Vernon) led the team with 9 digs, closely followed by Lexi Liaromatis (Wilmington, Ill./Wilmington) with 8 digs. Claire Schaffner (Delavan, Ill./Delavan) recorded 18 of Eureka's 22 assists in the match.
UP NEXT
The Red Devils' postseason fate will be determined by Blackburn's matchups against MUW and Webster on Saturday afternoon. If the Beavers lose both games, Eureka will claim the sixth seed in the SLIAC tournament. If Blackburn wins either game, Tuesday will have been Eureka's final match of the season.
