Volleyball Drops Straight Sets at Monmouth

MONMOUTH, Ill. – The Eureka volleyball team lost in straight sets at Monmouth on Wednesday night, with set scores of 24-26, 17-25, and 17-25.

In the first set, the Red Devils led most of the way and were even a point away from winning. Unfortunately, after jumping out to a 24-22 lead, the Red Devils allowed Monmouth to score 4 unanswered points, losing the set 26-24. 

The Red Devils started strong in the second set as well, but that lead quickly vanished when the Scots scored 7 consecutive points to take a 13-7 lead. Monmouth would not look back from there and closed the set out 25-17.

The final set was very close at the beginning, with the teams tied at 11-11. From there, Monmouth scored 6 of the next 7 points to take a commanding 17-12 lead. Once again, the Scots closed out the set 25-17 to win the match.

Alyssa Company (Lincoln, Ill./Lincoln Community) led the Red Devils with 13 kills, while Claire Schaffner (Delavan, Ill./Delavan) led the team with 10 assists and tied with Lexi Liaromatis (Wilmington, Ill./Wilmington) for the lead with 8 digs.
