Volleyball Completes Comeback at MUW

COLUMBUS, Miss. – The Eureka volleyball team overcame a 2-set deficit on Saturday morning, defeating MUW in 5 sets with scores of 20-25, 21-25, 25-23, 25-23, and 15-12.

Eureka got off to a slow start, dropping the first two sets and putting the Owls just one set away from winning the match. MUW jumped out to a 14-11 lead in the third set, but the Red Devils responded by scoring the next 10 points to take a commanding lead. They went on to win the set 25-23, capped off by a kill from Hallee Gauna (Arcola, Ill./Arcola).

The Red Devils led for most of the fourth set but eventually fell behind 21-22, putting MUW just 3 points away from victory. Once again, Eureka rallied, scoring 4 of the final 5 points to send the match to a fifth and final set.

In the final set, Eureka fell behind again at 6-10. However, they rallied once more, scoring 9 of the last 11 points to secure the season sweep of MUW. Brooklyn Shell (Evansville, Ind./Mount Vernon) recorded kills on three of the final four points, playing a crucial role in the victory. Shell finished the match with 15 kills, along with 10 digs, 2 blocks, and 2 service aces. Alyssa Company (Lincoln, Ill./Lincoln Community) contributed 11 kills, 7 digs, and 4 blocks, while Chelsea Beck (Clay City, Ill./Clay City) led the team with 18 assists and 11 digs.
