Volleyball Falls in Straight Sets at Fontbonne

CLAYTON, Mo. – The Eureka volleyball team faced a tough challenge on Saturday, losing in straight sets to Fontbonne, with scores of 15-25, 12-25, and 15-25.
In the opening set, the Red Devils found themselves facing an early deficit, trailing 4-0 before scoring their first point. They battled back to narrow the gap to a single point, but a late rally by Fontbonne secured the first set for the Griffins. The second set saw Eureka stay competitive until an 11-point scoring streak by Fontbonne put them ahead 23-11, leading to another set victory for the Griffins.
In the final set, Eureka took an 11-8 lead. However, Fontbonne responded with a 4-point scoring run, regaining the lead and maintaining control to win the match.
Brooklyn Shell (Evansville, Ind./Mount Vernon) led the Red Devils with 6 kills and added 9 digs. Cloee O'Donoghue (Emden, Ill./Hartsburg-Emden) achieved a career-high 12 digs, while Hallee Gauna (Arcola, Ill./Arcola) contributed 4 kills and 3 blocks. Sadie Crafton (East Peoria, Ill./East Peoria) also tallied 4 kills and 2 blocks, while Maleaha Nagel (Abingdon, Ill./Abingdon-Avon) and Claire Schaffner (Delavan, Ill./Delavan) tied for the team lead with 8 assists each.

The Red Devils will be back on the road on Tuesday, Oct. 1, for a non-conference matchup against Concordia-Chicago.
