EUREKA, Ill. – The Eureka volleyball team lost to Fontbonne on Wednesday night, with set scores of 13-25, 16-25, and 9-25.
The Griffins jumped out to a significant lead in the first set, extending their advantage to as large as 13 points. Fontbonne's fast start proved too much for the Red Devils, who dropped the first set. The second set was much different; the Red Devils stayed close with the Griffins early on, but Fontbonne rallied down the stretch to take the set 25-16. In the third and final set, Fontbonne once again jumped out to an early lead, scoring the first four points. The Griffins never looked back after gaining that advantage and won the set 25-9 to claim the match.
Alyssa Company (Lincoln, Ill./Lincoln Community) led the way for the Red Devils with 7 kills, 2 solo blocks, and 7 digs. Claire Schaffner (Delavan, Ill./Delavan) recorded a team-high 9 assists. Cloee O'Donoghue (Emden, Ill./Hartsburg-Emden) and Brooklyn Shell (Evansville, Ind./Mount Vernon) tied with Company for the team-high in digs, each also contributing 7.
