Volleyball Splits Doubleader: Defeats MUW in Four, Falls to Westminster in Three

FULTON, Mo. – The Eureka volleyball team defeated MUW in four sets but fell to Westminster in three sets on Saturday afternoon. 

GAME 1 vs. MUW

The Red Devils secured a victory over the Owls, winning 25-20, 23-25, 25-21, and 25-8. 

Freshman Alyssa Company (Lincoln, Ill./Lincoln Community) had another standout performance, recording a career-high with 14 kills and 4 service aces. She also contributed 12 digs and finished with a hitting percentage of .480. Junior Claire Schaffner (Delavan, Ill./Delavan) and freshman Chelsea Beck (Clay City, Ill./Clay City) both achieved career highs in assists, Schaffner had 20 and Beck had 19. Senior Hallee Gauna(Arcola, Ill./Arcola) added 12 kills, while Brooklyn Shell (Evansville, Ind./Mount Vernon) recorded season highs with 10 kills and 4 service aces.

GAME 2 vs. Westminster

In the second match of the afternoon, Eureka fell to Westminster in straight sets, 19-25, 20-25, and 14-25. 

Gauna led the team with 12 kills, bringing her total to 24 for the day. Schaffner had another strong showing, adding 12 assists against the Blue Jays. Company finished the second match with a .333 hitting percentage and 7 kills, giving her a total of 21 kills on the day. Shell led the Red Devils with 9 digs in the second match.
