EUREKA, Ill. – The Eureka volleyball team fought hard but ultimately fell to Dominican on Friday night, with set scores of 28-26, 27-25, and 25-18.
The first set was very highly contested, but Dominican managed to pull through for a 28-26 victory. In the second set, the Red Devils led by as many as seven points and had a chance to win when they held a 24-23 advantage. However, the Stars fought back and took the second set 27-25. In the final set, Dominican built a commanding 23-8 lead and won 25-18 to take the match in straight sets.
Senior Hallee Gauna (Arcola, Ill./Arcola) had a standout performance for the Red Devils with 15 kills and a .423 hitting percentage. Freshman Alyssa Company (Lincoln, Ill./Lincoln Community) also excelled, leading the team with 13 digs and contributing 12 kills. Junior Claire Schaffner (Delavan, Ill./Delavan) led the team with 15 assists, while freshman Chelsea Beck (Clay City, Ill./Clay City) added 14 assists.
