EC Volleyball Selected Seventh in SLIAC Preseason Poll

ST. LOUIS – The Eureka volleyball team has been selected seventh in the 2022 St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference preseason poll.

The poll, which was conducted by league coaches, featured the Red Devils with 14 points. Greenville narrowly edged Westminster for the top spot, scoring 45 points and four of the eight first-place votes. The Blue Jays notched 44 points, along with three first-place votes, while Webster wasn't far behind, tallying 40 points and one first-place vote.

Fontbonne and Spalding were next with 31 and 25 points, respectively. Blackburn finished four points ahead of the Red Devils with 18 points.

Principia, which brought back volleyball last season but did not compete in conference play, rounds out the field with seven points.

In her first season at Eureka, coach Candace Van Bogaert will be mixing a core of returners with a slew of newcomers.

The Red Devils bring back two seasoned seniors in Jordyn Fox (Pontiac, Ill./Pontiac) and Megan Masching (Pontiac, Ill./Pontiac), two key juniors in Faith Catour (Orion, Ill./Orion) and Regan Reed (Flanagan, Ill./Flanagan-Cornell), and returning sophomore top hitter Brooklyn Shell (Evansville, Ind./Mount Vernon).

Eureka is set to open its season on Friday, Sept. 2 at St. Mary-of-the-Woods.
