Eureka Volleyball Selected Seventh in SLIAC Preseason Poll

ST. LOUIS – The Eureka volleyball team has been selected seventh in the 2021 St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference preseason poll.

The poll, which was conducted by league coaches, featured the Red Devils with six points.

Webster topped the field with 34 points and four of the seven first-place votes. The Gorloks were followed by Greenville with 28 points and two first-place votes and Westminster, which received 28 points and one first-place vote.

Fontbonne was fourth with 22 points, while Spalding and Blackburn had 15 and 14 points, respectively.

After not fielding a team last year, Principia is bringing back the volleyball program this fall, but will not officially compete in conference play.

The Red Devils are looking to build off a 1-14 spring campaign in which the squad competed well with league's top teams down the stretch and ended the regular season with a five-set victory over Iowa Wesleyan.

The Red Devils return four starters from last year's team, including their top three attackers. Senior Corinne DeBoard (Centralia, Ill./Christ Our Rock Lutheran) led the team with 103 kills, adding 138 digs. Senior Emma Harris (Streator, Ill./Streator) tallied 92 kills, while sophomore Regan Reed (Flanagan, Ill./Flanagan-Cornell) finished with 77 kills and 194 digs. Among the top newcomers for head coach Nick Mackall are Brooklyn Shell (Evansville, Ind./Mount Vernon), Alexis Charlton (Eureka, Ill.Eureka), and Mallory Ward (Bridgeton, Mo./Ladue).
