Eureka Drops Road Match at Spalding, 3-0

EUREKA – The Eureka volleyball team dropped a road St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference match at Spalding in three sets on Tuesday.

The Red Devils started slow, but they picked up a little bit of steam as they went, improving in hitting percentage with each set. The final scores were 25-14, 25-13, 25-18.

Eureka junior Corinne DeBoard (Centralia, Ill./Christ Our Rock Lutheran) notched a team-high seven kills while hitting .174. Freshman Regan Reed (Flanagan, Ill./Flanagan-Cornell) posted six kills and a team-high 10 digs while hitting a team-best .182 on the night. She also made two of the team's three aces.

Emma Harris (Streator, Ill./Streator) and Katelin Peters (New Berlin, Ill./New Berlin) added four and three kills, respectively. Setter Faith Catour (Orion, Ill./Orion) registered 18 assists.

For Spalding, Hannah Holland racked up 15 kills and Cassie Jones added 10, while Mya Summers distributed 31 assists and Sarah Richards had 14 assists.

Eureka improved from .154 hitting in the second set to .179 in the third and the final set. In the final set, the Red Devils split the first 22 points to make it 11-11.

However, then the home team got hot and scored on seven of the next 10 points. EC answered with a 3-0 run to come within two at 19-17, but the Golden Eagles finished strong from there.

When the Red Devils (0-8, 0-8 SLIAC) return home, they'll have a couple days to prepare for a home match against Greenville (6-1, 6-1) on Friday at 6 p.m.
