Red Devils Downed in Monmouth Invite

MONMOUTH, Ill. – Freshman setter Heather Robinson (Peoria, Ill./Limestone) earned All-Tounament honors, but the Red Devils dropped three matches Saturday in the Monmouth College Invitational in Monmouth, Ill.

The Red Devils battled the host in the first match of the morning, falling to the Fighting Scots in four sets, 25-10, 22-25, 25-17, 25-16.

Robinson led the offensive attack for the Red Devils in match one, setting the tone with nine kills on 21 attacks and adding a team-high 17 assists.

Four freshman Red Devils made their first collegiate starts, including Robinson, middle back Gabrielle Moody (Peoria, Ill./Richwoods), defensive specialist Jordan Detmers (Hartsburg, Ill./Hartsburg-Emden) and Lexi Dooley (Sutter, Ill./Warsaw).

Eureka would matchup with St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference foe MacMurray College in game two of the day, with the Highlanders blanking the Red Devils in straight sets, 25-11, 25-18, 25-20.

Robinson and sophomore middle hitter Ana Gauger (El Paso, Ill./El Paso-Gridley) each tallied six kills, while sophomore setter Meagan Hanney (Sherman, Ill./Williamsville) chipped in a team-high 12 assists. Defensively, Dooley racked up 13 digs for the Red Devils.

After dropping the two pool play matches, the Red Devils were pinned up against Illinois College in the 5th place match. The Lady Blues rallied for a three-set victory over Eureka, 25-13, 28-26, 25-22.

Robison and Moody provided six kills apiece, while Hanney delivered 11 assists. Dooley added double-digit dig totals again in the nightcap with a team-high of 15.\

The Red Devils will continue their non-conference play with a 7 p.m. road match-up Wednesday at Benedictine University in Lisle, Ill.
