Eureka Distance Team Posts Strong Performances at Millikin Invite

DECATUR, Ill. – The Eureka cross country and distance team continued their outdoor track season at the Millikin Big Blue Alumni Invite on Saturday, overcoming rainy conditions to deliver a solid performance featuring multiple personal bests.

"We started the day in the rain, but fortunately, the wind stayed much milder than anticipated," head coach Chris Robinson said. "The team put in a great effort, and we saw some strong performances that show we're making great progress."

Jose Amador (Kempton, Ill./Tri-Point) opened the day with the 3000m Steeplechase, but a back issue hampered what started as a promising race, finishing in 12:04.17. He rebounded with a strong showing in the 400m, clocking 56.85. Bailey Webster (East Peoria, Ill./East Peoria) continued his standout season, recording personal bests in both the 1500m (4:20.01) and the 800m (2:05.14). Hayden Skaggs (Mansfield, Texas/Mansfield) made his return to the 1500m for the first time since his sophomore year, crossing the line in 6:21.20.

On the women's side, Isabella Carbajal (Chicago, Ill./Shepard) made her season debut in the 1500m, earning a personal best with a time of 6:35.41 in her first attempt at the distance since her freshman year. Odessa Grove (Lewistown, Ill./Lewistown) fought hard and finished the same race in 7:27.20.

"It was nice to get in a solid meet with multiple PRs leading into our next competition at Slippery Rock in Pennsylvania," Robinson added. "The team is running well and continues to make great progress."
