Red Devils Notch 10 PRs at Greenville
GREENVILLE, Ill. – Despite a shorthanded roster, the Eureka cross country and distance team notched 10 new personal records at the Greenville Select on Saturday.
After scoring six PRs on the men's side at Illinois College last week, the Eureka men increased their total to seven in Greenville.
They all came in the 800- and 1,500-meter runs, and Bailey Webster (East Peoria, Ill./East Peoria) led the way in both events.
In the 800, Webster recorded a 27th-place finish in 2:06.81, and he was followed by Tucker Williamson (Monticello, Ill./Monticello) and Michael Beaumont (Greenup, Ill./Cumberland), who came in 44th in 2:22.44 and 46th in 2:24.77, respectively. Beaumont improved by over six seconds.
Webster improved by over six seconds in the 1,500, taking 31st in 4:20.50.
Jose Amador (Kempton, Ill./Tri-Point) won his heat and set a PR with a 34th-place finish in 4:28.39. Williamson made a strong outdoor debut by winning his heat by over four seconds and taking 48th in 4:40.82. Beaumont took 57th in 5:01.50, improving by over seconds for the second time.
All seven were personal-record-setting performances. Tony DeLira (Chicago, Ill./Alcott/Lincoln), meanwhile, recorded EC's best finish on the men's side, taking 14th in the 5,000 in 17:02.49.
On the women's side, Emily Baker (Washington, Ill./Washington) recorded two PRs and Isabella Carbajal (Chicago, Ill./Shepard) had one.
Baker improved by over five seconds in the 1,500, taking 20th in 5:44.71, while Odessa Grove (Lewistown, Ill./Lewistown) came in 32nd in 7:10.25.
Baker also came in 35th in the 800 with a personal-record-setting time of 2:57.08, following teammate Rachel Fisher (Metamora, Ill./Metamora), who finished 25th in 2:34.56.
Carbajal set her PR in the 400 with a time of 1:11.04, improving by two seconds.
Sarah Kimbro (Peoria, Ill./Metamora) provided EC's top finish of the day, placing sixth in the Steeplechase with a time of 16:26.84.
"Coach Ian (Cummings), Coach Zach (Sancken), and I were thrilled with the efforts this weekend," EC coach Chris Robinson said. "The team energy was great, and it helped produce excellent results."
Eureka will next compete in the Augustana College Meet of Champions next weekend.
