Eureka’s Karissa Heffernan Named SLIAC Women’s Track Athlete of the Week

EUREKA – For the first time in her career, Eureka's Karissa Heffernan (Metamora, Ill./Metamora/Lewis) is the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Women's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week.

The sophomore distance runner seized a third-place finish in the 1,500-meter run at the Millikin Big Blue Invite on Saturday.

Her time of 5:17 was the fastest by a SLIAC runner over the weekend. She also took 10th in the 800 in 2:34.

In February, Heffernan brought home a pair of conference titles at the SLIAC Indoor Championships, topping the field in the mile and the 3,000 to help lead the Red Devils to a fourth-place finish overall.

The Eureka cross country and distance team will next compete at Illinois College on Friday at 11 a.m.
