ELSAH, Ill. – A late goal in the 88th minute proved decisive on Saturday afternoon as the Eureka women's soccer team fell 1-0 on the road against Principia.
Eureka (3-7-0, 0-3-0 SLIAC) held Principia (4-3-0, 2-0-0) scoreless for 87 minutes before Dachelle Carter broke through with a game-winner off a corner kick from Zoe Houseman. The Red Devils battled defensively throughout and almost walked away with a clean sheet, with goalkeeper Naitzy Garcia (Mendota, Ill./Mendota) making four saves on 14 shots faced.
Logan Webster (Charleston, Ill./Charleston) led Eureka with four shots, including two on goal, while Morgan Oginksky (Flushing, Mich./Flushing) registered the only other shot on frame for the Red Devils.
Eureka was outshot 14-6 and trailed 5-3 in shots on goal, but held Principia scoreless until the closing minutes.

Eureka returns home Thursday for a 7:15 p.m. kickoff against Lyon. The Red Devils will look to bounce back as they search for their first conference win of the season.
