CARLINVILLE, Ill. – The Eureka women's soccer team concluded their season with a 1-0 victory over Blackburn on Wednesday afternoon.
The Red Devils scored the only goal of the match in the 3rd minute, when Brianna Murphy (Grand Blanc, Mich./Flint Powers) floated a free kick into the top left corner, just over the goalkeeper's hand, to give Eureka a 1-0 lead. Scoring opportunities were scarce for the remainder of the match, as the Red Devils held the Beavers scoreless, securing their second win of the season.
Eureka outshot Blackburn 7-3, with 3 shots on target compared to none for Blackburn. Julia Chlebek (Homer Glen, Ill./Lockport Township) led the Red Devils with 3 shots, 2 of which were on target. Hannah Jachimiak (Arvada, Colo./Ralston Valley) and Megan Edwards (Manchester, Mich./Manchester) combined for the team's second clean sheet of the season, with Jachimiak starting and playing for the first 81 minutes before Edwards subbed in for the final 9 minutes.
The Red Devils finished the season with a 2-12-1 record and a 1-7 mark in SLIAC play during Reece Scragg's second year as head coach. Wednesday's match also marked the final game for the Red Devils' only senior, Alyssa Bryant (Peoria, Ill./Richwoods), who was honored just over two weeks ago on Senior Day.
