MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The Eureka women's soccer team came from behind on Wednesday afternoon to tie Mount Mary 1-1.
The first half was relatively even, with Eureka outshooting Mount Mary 10-7. Despite leading in shots, Eureka conceded first, allowing Mount Mary to score in the 22nd minute to take a 1-0 lead. That scoreline held until halftime, as the Red Devils were unable to capitalize on their chances.
The second half was highly competitive, just like the first. This time, however, it was Eureka that found the back of the net when Brianna Murphy (Grand Blanc, Mich./Flint Powers) played a free kick into the box for Julia Chlebek (Homer Glen, Ill./Lockport Township) to run onto and score the equalizer. Despite pushing for a winner, that would be the final goal of the day, as the match ended in a 1-1 draw.
Overall, Eureka outshot Mount Mary 15-13 and had 10 shots on target compared to 9 for Mount Mary. Megan Edwards (Manchester, Mich./Manchester) and Hannah Jachimiak (Arvada, Colo./Ralston Valley) split halves in goal for Eureka, with Edwards recording 5 saves in the first half and Jachimiak recording 3 saves in the second half.
