WATERTOWN, Wis. – The Eureka College women's soccer team celebrated their first win of the season on Tuesday afternoon, defeating Maranatha Baptist 1-0.
The match featured opportunities for both teams in the first half, but neither could capitalize, with goalkeeper Megan Edwards (Manchester, Mich./Manchester) making four crucial saves to keep the score level at halftime.
Hannah Jachimiak (Arvada, Colo./Ralston Valley) took over in goal for the second half, recording five saves to maintain the deadlock. As the clock wound down, it seemed the game might end in a draw. However, in the 88th minute, freshman Brianna Murphy (Grand Blanc, Mich./Flint Powers) delivered a corner kick that hit the back post and found the net, marking her first collegiate goal and sealing the victory.
Despite being outshot 14-6, with Maranatha putting nine shots on target compared to Eureka's five, the Red Devils made their opportunities count. Addison Byers (Flushing, Mich./Flushing) led Eureka with two shots, both on target.
