EUREKA – The Eureka women's soccer team came out hard against Lyon for Homecoming on Saturday morning, but the Fighting Scots pulled away for a 7-0 win.
Eureka freshman goalkeeper Gabby Penberthy (Sullivan, Ill./Sullivan) racked up 34 saves in the match – the second-most in a single match in program history.
Eureka kept the Fighting Scots off the board for 18 minutes and conceded just three goals in the first half.
Jessica Steele recorded a hat trick for the visitors. Katelyn Balderas added two goals, while Zoe Papazoglou and Alli Mead each had one.
Freshman Elizabeth Rensman (Mechanicsburg, Ill./Sangamon Valley) fired Eureka's one shot of the day.
Eureka (0-10, 0-5 SLIAC) will next take on Greenville (6-5-3, 5-1 SLIAC) on the road on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
