EUREKA – The Eureka women's soccer team kept Webster off the board until the 68th minute on Saturday.

The Gorloks then netted three goals in the next 13 minutes to secure a 3-0 win, but the Red Devils made them work for it.

With goalkeeper Abby Swope (Canton, Ill./Canton) and sweepers Emma Harris (Streator, Ill./Streator) and Kayla Enochs (Greenfield, Ind./Central Greenfield) all at the top of their game, the Red Devils earned their best-ever result against Webster.

The previous best results against the Gorloks were 5-0 losses earlier this season, in 2013 and in 2009, respectively. Just two years ago, Webster blanked EC 13-0.

On Saturday, the Red Devils allowed just three goals on 40 shots and 24 on frame.

Playing without two of their top offensive players in Madison Shines (Marengo, Ill./Marengo) and Lindsey Johnston (Evansville, Ind./Harrison), the Red Devils played stingy, defensive-minded soccer.

The result was a frustrating match for a Webster team eager to put the ball in the back of the net.

It finally happened when Mackenzie Sundhausen scored when Jennifer Munger slotted it to her right in  front of the goal off the end line in in the 68th minute. Those two connected on a cross to make it 2-0 just 33 seconds later. Then, Olivia Alvarez scored off a rebound in the 81st.

Swope finished with a season-high 21 saves, bringing her season total to 161 and career total to 742. She is now 17th on the all-time NCAA Division III saves list.

On Sunday, Eureka will host Mount Mary for Senior Day at McKinzie Field. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m.
