FENTON, Mo. – Webster successfully kept the Eureka women's soccer team off the board on Wednesday in a 5-0 win at World Wide Technology Soccer Park.

It was the first time the Red Devils have come within five goals of the Gorloks since 2013 and only the third time in program history.

Mackenzie Sundhausen tallied two goals for the home team, including the first goal of the match in the seventh minute on a high shot to the left side. Less than four minutes later, she assisted Jordan Lande to make it 2-0.

It stayed that way until late the first half, when Kelly Bowen scored off an assist by Kaitlyn Theriot.

Sundhausen struck again in the 71st minute, drilling one high and through the center following a give by Emily Buchholz. Buchholz assisted on the last goal of the match as well, finding Hope Dedic in the 89th minute. The win moved Webster to 7-3 on the season and 3-2 in St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play.

Eureka senior goalkeeper Abby Swope (Canton, Ill./Canton) notched 18 saves on the night.

Last season, Eureka fell to Webster 6-0 twice. In 2019, the score was 2013. Gradually, the Red Devils are getting closer to the traditionally strongest programs in the conference.

The team is, however, still playing a lot of defense. Webster placed 23 shots on goal to the Red Devis' one in the match. Eureka senior Michaela Mall (Princeton, Ill./Princeton) claimed the only shot on goal for the maroon and gold.

On Friday, Eureka (2-6, 1-4 SLIAC) will host another tough SLIAC opponent, when Fontbonne (5-2-1, 4-0-1 SLIAC) comes to McKinzie Field for Homecoming.
