Sydney Grant, Abby Swope Sweep SLIAC Women’s Soccer Player of the Week Honors

EUREKA – After recording a historic 1-0 win over Blackburn last week, the Eureka women's soccer team swept the weekly St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference honors on Monday.

Sydney Grant (Morton, Ill./Morton) was named the SLIAC Offensive Player of the Week and Abby Swope (Canton, Ill./Canton) was named the SLIAC Defensive Player of the Week.

Grant, a junior transfer from MacMurray, put away the match-winning goal against the Beavers to lead the Red Devils to their first conference win in over five years.

Swope, a three-year starting goalkeeper for the Red Devils, protected the net to get the clean sheet. She was assertive in retrieving the ball any time it came near her and made three saves – including an impressive diving save in the last 10 minutes.

The pair of weekly honors marked the Red Devils first time receiving SLIAC Player of the Week recognition since 2013.

Vicky Benhart was the Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 23, 2013. Kesli Blankenship was the last Red Devil to be named Offensive Player of the Week, on September 16, 2012.

The Red Devils (1-1, 1-1 SLIAC) next host Spalding (3-0, 3-0 SLIAC) at McKinzie Field on Friday at 3 p.m.
