Iowa Wesleyan Edges EC Women's Soccer, 4-2

MOUNT PLEASANT, Iowa The Eureka women's soccer team found the back of the net twice on Wednesday afternoon, but the Red Devils were unable to capitalize, falling to Iowa Wesleyan in St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play, 4-2.

Trailing 1-0, the Red Devils took advantage of back-to-back goals from freshman Madison Shines (Marengo, Ill./Marengo Community) in the 26th and 32nd minutes to give them the lead at halftime for the second time this season. The first was an unassisted effort; the second was off a penalty kick.

But, in the 52nd minute, Iowa Wesleyan's Emmy Rodriguez put in her second goal of the contest to even the match at two goals apiece.

Then, Iowa Wesleyan grabbed the lead in the 52nd minute off a goal by Jacqueline Ivers.

Eureka sophomore goalkeeper Abby Swope (Canton, Ill./Canton) tallied 13 saves on the night, bringing her total to a league-leading 221 on the season with three matches remaining in the season. 

The Red Devils (1-13, 0-6 SLIAC) will be back at home on Saturday to take on Blackburn at 3 p.m. inside Pete FioRito Stadium.
