Eureka Wrestling Sweeps Illinois Wesleyan

EUREKA, Ill. – The Eureka wrestling team hosted its first home dual of the season on Friday night, with the men's team winning 40-17 and the women's team winning 34-1.
On the men's side, Jake Jozwiak put the Red Devils on the board early, winning by fall in just 2:20 in the 125-pound weight class. Isaac Smith then won by forfeit at 133 pounds.
Gaige Owens impressed again for Eureka, winning by fall in 4:06 in the 141-pound weight class. At 149 pounds, Nathan Berta secured a major decision victory, giving the Red Devils a 20-0 lead.
"Our lower weights have always been tough," Head Coach Eric Biehl said after the meet. "You have to give them credit for always going out there and doing what they need to do."
After losing points at 157 pounds and 165 pounds, Tyren Moore got the Red Devils back on track with a win by fall in 5:37, extending Eureka's lead to 26-11 and sealing the victory.
"It was great to see Tyren get a fall and seal the dual for us," Coach Biehl added.
Illinois Wesleyan earned 6 points by forfeit at 184 pounds, cutting the lead to 26-17.
However, those would be the last points for Illinois Wesleyan, as Thomas Culp won by medical forfeit and Jacob Kaminski won by forfeit, giving Eureka a 40-17 victory.
"Our guys looked good," Coach Biehl said. "I think this was a confidence-boosting dual that the men's team needed."
On the women's side, Alex Parks had the only match of the night. She won by technical fall, closing out the 34-1 victory for the Red Devils.
"It was nice to see Alex win that match," Coach Biehl said after the meet. "We had already secured the dual win, but with her having the only real match, it was a good confidence boost for her at home."
