Red Devils Compete at Fred Johnson Duals

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – The Eureka men's and women's wrestling teams traveled to the Fred Johnson Duals, hosted by Augustana College, on Saturday.

On the women's side, Eureka tied Jamestown 19-19 in their opening round of duals. In the second round, Eureka lost 24-18 to the host team, Augustana. The Red Devils then fell 25-13 to Cornell and ended the day with a 40-5 loss to Quincy, an NCAA Division II opponent.

Kyley Bair, Natallie Tobuk, Audrey Driskell, and McKenzie Cook led the Red Devils on the women's side, with each recording three victories. Cook finished with a perfect 3-0 record, including two wins by fall and one by technical fall, earning her SLIAC Women's Wrestler of the Week honors.

On the men's side, the Red Devils opened their day with a 46-11 loss to the host team, Augustana. Eureka closed out the day with a close 30-21 defeat to fellow SLIAC opponent Westminster.

Gaige Owens and Isaac Smith were standout performers for Eureka, each finishing the day 2-0. Both Smith and Owens made quick work of their opponents, each securing one win by fall and one by technical fall.

"Both teams performed well," Head Coach Eric Biehl said, acknowledging the team's resilience despite battling injuries and illness. "We battled with giving up forfeits and free points, so the scoreboard didn't reflect the story."
