Trevor Hedges Named SLIAC’s First Ever Newcomer of the Year

ST. LOUIS, MO. – Eureka's Trevor Hedges (Canton, Ill./Canton) has been named the SLIAC's first-ever Newcomer of the Year. The freshman out of Canton, Illinois went 3-0 at 125 in the conference's men's championship last weekend, earning two wins by pin fall.

So far this season, Hedges is 17-5 with nine wins by pin fall and three titles. He continued to dominate this weekend, pinning Fontbonne's Gavin Patterson in just 14 seconds in the Quarterfinals. In the Semifinals, Hedges defeated Westminster's Henry Warfel by technical fall in 52 seconds.

And, in the 1st Place Match, Hedges pinned Schreiner's Jose Salinas Nava in just under a minute (0:58).

"I'm very proud of Trevor," Coach Biehl said.  "He cut down to a weight class to help put us in a position to be champs. Outside of that this whole year he has been wrestling at a high level. I'm excited to see how he does at regions. He more than deserved the newcomer of the year award. He has a very bright future!"
