Eureka Men’s Wrestling Tunes Up, Competes at North Central

NAPERVILLE, Ill. – Five members of the Eureka men's wrestling team competed at the North Central Invitational on Saturday.

Four of the five Red Devils picked up a win and went 1-2 on the day, scoring nine team points overall.

At 125 pounds, Seth Padavic (Benton, Ill./Benton Consolidated/Lincoln) opened the tournament with a 12-3 major decision over Fontbonne's Diego McCormick.

In the consolations, Bradden Davis (Mount Vernon, Ill./Mount Vernon) earned a 6-3 decision over John Carroll's Anthony Santagata at 141 pounds, Brock Neill (Oglesby, Ill./La Salle-Peru) produced a first-period pin against Fontbonne's Hassan Fofana in 1:18 at 174, and Dominic Tenayuca (Algonquin, Ill./ Jacobs/Lincoln) won by medical forfeit against John Carroll's Kale Buckiso at 149.

In the 285-pound bracket, Robert Castellano (Galesburg, Ill./Galesburg/Lincoln) lost by fall in seven minutes and was narrowly edged in a 3-2 decision.

Eureka coach Eric Biehl said that the meet was a tune-up for the Red Devils' upcoming dual at Aurora on Thursday, and that the team will have its full squad ready to go then.

On Sunday, it will be the Eureka women's team's turn to compete in the North Central Invitational. The action begins at 9 a.m.
