Red Devils Secure Massive Road Victory Over Principia

ELSAH, Ill. – The Eureka women's basketball team earned a massive road victory, defeating Principia 84-67 on Saturday and moving into a tie for 4th place in the SLIAC standings.
Eureka came out strong, quickly setting the tone. Miya Webb (Indianapolis, Ind./Brownsburg) hit a three-pointer early and followed up with an assist to Sierra Garcia-Reisch (Las Animas, Colo./La Junta) for a layup, giving the Red Devils a 7-2 lead. Garcia-Reisch then added a three-pointer to extend the lead to 14-8. Eureka closed the first quarter with a 20-13 lead, thanks in part to late three-pointers from Alyssa Abascal (El Paso, Texas/El Dorado)) and Miya Webb.
In the second quarter, Principia fought back, trimming the deficit to as little as 4. However, Eureka answered with key plays from Webb, who hit another three, and Maxine Najera (Riverside, Calif./Hillcrest), who came up with a steal and scored a layup for the last points of the half. Despite some turnovers, Eureka maintained a 32-26 lead going into halftime.
The Red Devils' offensive firepower showed in the second half. Webb nailed two early three-pointers, the second one assisted by Allannah Jackson (Peoria, Ill./Peoria), while Garcia-Reisch hit two more threes late in the period to push the lead to 57-48 heading into the final quarter.
Eureka sealed the win in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Panthers 27-19. Garcia-Reisch pulled down several crucial defensive rebounds and hit a jumper down the stretch to keep Principia at bay. Webb added a jumper and a pair of free throws late in the game to cap off her career-high 30-point performance, giving the Red Devils a comfortable 84-67 victory.
