EUREKA, Ill. - The Eureka women's basketball team secured a decisive 70-38 victory over Fontbonne on Wednesday afternoon at Christine Bonati Bollwinkle Arena. This marks Eureka's first win over Fontbonne since January of 2022, breaking a six-game losing streak against the Griffins.
Eureka started the first quarter strong with Sierra Garcia-Reisch (Las Animas, Colo./La Junta) scoring a layup at the outset and continuing to lead the team with four steals overall. Elena Redgate (Metamora, Ill./Metamora) contributed early with a block, a layup, and a steal, while Miya Webb (Indianapolis, Ind./Brownsburg) added a 3-pointer to help the Red Devils build an early lead. Maxine Najera (Riverside, Calif./Hillcrest) also played a key role, scoring four points and securing several rebounds, as the Red Devils finished the quarter with a 17-6 lead over the Griffins, capitalizing on the Griffins' six turnovers.
During the second quarter, the Red Devils outscored the Griffins 22-12, with strong performances from Miya Webb and Sierra Garcia-Reisch. Webb contributed significantly with a 3-pointer and multiple assists, while Garcia-Reisch added to the lead with several made layups. The Red Devils' defense was effective, forcing six turnovers from the Griffins in the quarter, and the team capitalized on these opportunities, taking a 39-18 lead into halftime.
The Red Devils opened the third quarter strong, highlighted by Josie Ness (Sandwich, Ill./Sandwich) and Maxine Najera scoring early inside the paint, bringing the score to 43-18. Sierra Garcia-Reisch contributed significantly on defense with multiple steals, while Alyssa Abascal (El Paso, Texas/El Dorado) added a jumper, extending the lead to 55-27. Throughout the quarter, the Red Devils capitalized on the Griffins' turnovers, with Najera and Garcia-Reisch capitalizing on fast breaks and maintaining a 55-30 advantage at the end of the quarter.
In the fourth quarter, the Red Devils maintained strong defensive pressure and capitalized on turnovers, resulting in multiple scoring opportunities. Miya Webb opened the quarter with a successful 3-pointer, setting the tone for the Red Devils. Sierra Garcia-Reisch and Alyssa Abascal contributed with layups, while Allannah Jackson (Peoria, Ill./Peoria) and Josie Ness each made impactful plays with a steal and a block down the stretch. The Red Devils outscored the Griffins 15 to 8 in the quarter, securing a 70-38 victory.
Miya Webb stood out for the Red Devils with 14 points, including four 3-pointers, and five assists. Alyssa Abascal also made a significant impact, scoring 10 points and adding two steals. Sierra Garcia-Reisch matched Webb's scoring effort with 14 points and two steals, along with Maxine Najera who had 14 points and a team-high eight rebounds. Allannah Jackson recorded seven steals in the game.

The Red Devils will look to build on tonight's win, when they face Westminster on Saturday, Jan. 25. The game is scheduled to tip off at 1:00 p.m. in Eureka. Westminster is currently tied for first in the SLIAC with an 8-1 conference record.
