Red Devils' Four-Game Win Streak Ended by Webster

EUREKA, Ill. - The Eureka women's basketball team fell to Webster 70-59 on Wednesday night at home. The loss ended a 4-game winning streak, which was Eureka's longest since the 2018-19 season.
Eureka took an 18-14 lead over Webster at the end of the first quarter, with Maxine Najera (Riverside, Calif./Hillcrest) contributing two assists and a rebound. Miya Webb (Indianapolis, Ind./Brownsburg) was instrumental, knocking down a 3-pointer and a fast-break jumper, while Sierra Garcia-Reisch (Las Animas, Colo./La Junta) added a layup in the paint.
The second quarter saw the Red Devils maintaining a competitive edge early on, with Brin Hultz (Quincy, Ill./Quincy) contributing a 3-pointer at 7:00 to bring the score to 21-19 in favor of Eureka. However, turnovers became an issue, culminating in a series of defensive rebounds and steals from the Gorloks, which allowed them to take control and extend their lead. Despite a late layup by Miya Webb at the end of the quarter, Webster outscored Eureka 19-8 in the quarter, closing out the half with a 33-26 advantage.
In the third quarter, Eureka tallied 14 points, with Maxine Najera contributing early by scoring a jumper at the 9:00 mark. Sierra Garcia-Reisch and Alyssa Abascal (El Paso, Texas/El Dorado) each added layups, while Allannah Jackson (Peoria, Ill./Peoria) made a pair of free throws to cut Webster's lead to 5. Despite a solid defensive effort, including two steals by Miya Webb, Eureka committed several turnovers, totaling 10 in the quarter, and Webster capitalized to outscore Eureka by six points, finishing the quarter with a 53-40 advantage.
In the fourth quarter, the Red Devils scored 19 points, outpacing the Gorloks' 17. Miya Webb was active, contributing with two layups and four free throws. Josie Ness (Sandwich, Ill./Sandwich) also added a 3-pointer and a layup. Defensively, Eureka recorded five steals, with Elena Redgate (Metamora, Ill./Metamora) and Miya Webb each claiming one. Despite multiple turnovers, Eureka's efforts in the paint and from the free-throw line kept them competitive throughout the quarter, but Webster was able to maintain their lead and hand the Red Devils a 70-59 defeat.
Miya Webb led the team with 19 points, shooting 7-for-16 from the field, and contributed defensively with three steals. Alyssa Abascal showcased her defensive skills with two steals. Allannah Jackson also made a notable defensive impact with two steals and secured six rebounds. Maxine Najera was effective offensively, scoring 12 points on 5-for-11 shooting, and added five rebounds and three assists. Elena Redgate contributed defensively with three steals and grabbed four rebounds.
