Greenville Outlasts Eureka, 72-59.

EUREKA, IL. – The Eureka women's basketball team was defeated by Greenville at home on Wednesday, falling 72-59 in St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play.

The Red Devils fell behind early, heading into halftime down 36-23, but managed to find their groove in the 3rd and 4th quarters. Although it was not enough to overcome the deficit, Eureka matched Greenville's scoring for the rest of the game and forced the Panthers to work hard to earn their 13-point victory.

Junior Josie Ness (Sandwich, Ill./Sandwich) led the Red Devils in scoring with 15 points, going 6-for-13 from the field. Ness also pulled down 9 boards, blocked 2 Panther shots, and came away with 3 steals.

Ashley Wilcox (Hudson, Ill./Normal West) was bounced around quite a bit on her way to adding 13 points for Eureka, 7 of which came from the free throw line, where she went 7-11. Brin Hultz (Quincy, Ill./Travecca Nazarene) followed with 9 points for EC.

Makayla Rosenbery's (Mahomet, Ill./Mahomet-Seymour) scrappy defending continues to trigger fastbreak points for the Red Devils. Rosenbery posted a team-high 7 steals alongside her 8 points today. And, Ariel Chism (Pekin, Ill./Pekin) knocked down 2-of-5 field goals on her way to 7 points off the bench.

Greenville's Savana Powell-Goodman, Natalie Iberg, and Carolina Hoffman combined for 54 of the Panthers' points. Powell-Goodman notched 24, Iberg 17, and Hoffman 13.

On Saturday afternoon, Eureka (4-12, 2-7 SLIAC) tips off against Principia (9-6, 6-2 SLIAC) at Christine Bonati Bollwinkle Arena and Convocation Center at 1:00 p.m. CST. The Red Devils have not seen Principia since February 14th of last year, when they came away with an 84-66 victory.
