MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The Eureka women's basketball team dropped a 68-36 non-conference contest at Mount Mary in its season opener on Friday.
Freshman Lainey Moore (Sullivan, Ill./Sullivan) posted a team-high nine points on 4-of-8 shooting in her collegiate debut. Senior Makayla Rosenbery (Mahomet, Ill./Mahomet-Seymour/) added eight points and freshman Nevaeh Essien (Champaign, Ill./Champaign Central) contributed seven points and a team-high nine rebounds off the bench.
Mount Mary's Vanessa Diaz led all scorers with 20 points and made five 3-pointers, while teammate Deja Rivers followed with 17.
The Red Devils were right there in the first quarter, only trailing by one heading into the second, but the Blue Angels took a 10-point lead into halftime and expanded it to as many as 32 after a 23-point fourth-quarter.
Eureka posted 16 points off the bench.
The Red Devils (0-1) will look to bounce back on Tuesday when they host Dominican (0-1) in their home opener at Christine Bonati Bollwinkle Arena and Convocation Center on Tuesday at 6 p.m. The Stars lost 97-43 at Knox in their season opener on Wednesday.
