Fontbonne Pulls Away from Eureka, 80-54

EUREKA – The Eureka women's basketball team dropped an 80-54 St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game against Fontbonne on Saturday.

Abby Stotler (Wyoming, Ill./Stark County/MacMurray) recorded 10 points on 5-of-9 shooting for the Red Devils.

Jurnee Flournoy (Decatur, Ill./Decatur MacArthur) and Reece Putrich (Farmington, Ill./Farmington Central) came off the bench and added nine and eight points, respectively.

Josie Ness (Sandwich, Ill./Sandwich) tallied a team-high eight rebounds to go with six points, while Sydney Hannam (Canton, Ill./Canton/Spoon River) added seven points.

The Red Devils had control early on, leading by as many as seven points in the first quarter and holding a 21-18 advantage heading into the second quarter.

It started to slip away midway through the second, and the Griffins led 35-31 at half.

In the third, the visitors heated up and pulled way with a 25-point explosion and extended the lead to a game-high 31 midway through the fourth quarter.

Fontbonne's Ja'mise Bailey posted a game-high 19 points and had five steals.  Kourtney White posted a double-double of 13 points and 13 rebounds, while Kya Harbour added 12 points and Brianna Beamer contributed 10 points off the bench.

Eureka outrebounded Fontbonne 36-33 in the loss. The maroon and gold are currently sitting in the sixth and final playoff spot in the SLIAC standings.

On Tuesday at 5:30, the Red Devils (6-17, 3-9 SLIAC) will host Principia (11-10, 6-6 SLIAC) for Senior Night.
