Westminster Pushes Past Red Devils, 68-61

EUREKA – The Eureka women's basketball team came up short against Westminster in a 68-61 loss in St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play on Saturday.

The Red Devils held the lead and had control throughout the first half, but the Blue Jays managed to power past Eureka in the third quarter and stay on top the rest of the way.

Eureka senior standout Sydney Hannam (Canton, Ill./Canton/Spoon River) recorded a game-high 20 points. She hit two of the team's six 3-pointers en route to notching her 11th 20-point game of the season.

Reece Putrich (Farmington, Ill./Farmington Central) and Shakaya Rogers (Hanover, Mich./Concord/Glen Oaks) added 13 and 12 points, respectively. Putrich knocked down three triples and Rogers gathered seven rebounds.

Savanah Moore (Clinton, Ill./Mount Pulaski/MacMurray) added eight points and six rebounds, while Abby Stotler (Wyoming, Ill./Stark County/MacMurray) pulled down a team-high rebounds, registered four a team-high four assists and contributed four points.

For Westminster, Shelby Kurtz and Annette Ramirez each tallied a team-high 18 points. Ramirez also gathered 10 rebounds to record a double-double. After being held to six points in the first half, Ramirez, who leads the SLIAC in scoring, tallied 12 in the second half.

Eureka (6-15, 3-7 SLIAC) will next head to Webster (19-2, 9-1) on Wednesday for another SLIAC challenge on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. The Gorloks sit at the top of the league and have won seven straight games.
