Panthers Down Red Devils, 79-58

GREENVILLE, Ill. – Greenville got the best of the Eureka women's basketball team in St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action on Saturday, 79-58.

Eureka's Sydney Hannam (Canton, Ill./Canton/Spoon River) recorded a game-high 16 points on 5-of-9 shooting from the field and 6-of-6 shooting from the free-throw line in a losing effort.

Madi Jernigan (Bartonville, Ill./Limestone/Blackburn) followed with 11 points, six assists and four rebounds, while Jurnee Flournoy (Decatur, Ill./Decatur MacArthur) notched nine points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals in 21 minutes off the bench.

Abby Stotler (Wyoming, Ill./Star County/MacMurray) tallied eight points and nine rebounds. Savanah Moore (Clinton, Ill./Mount Pulaski/MacMurray) added seven points, and Josie Ness (Sandwich, Ill./Sandwich) added an even four points, four rebounds and four steals in her return to the rotation after missing the last five contests due to injury.

The Red Devils pushed the pace to keep pressure on the home team, but the Panthers responded by consistently forcing turnovers, knocking down 3-pointers and getting to the free-throw line.

Eureka shot 41.1 percent from the field compared to Greenville's 44.1 percent. The Panthers, however, hit 10 triples to EC's three and made 17-of-21 from the line compared to EC's 9-of-13.

Greenville held a firm upper hand for most of the game. The Red Devils started off the final frame strong, scoring the first six points and coming within 17 after trailing by 27 in the third.

Sophomore Savana Powell-Goodman tied Hannam's game-high 16 for Greenville while shooting 5-for-6 from the field, making her only 3-point attempt and sinking all five of her foul shots. Seniors Emily Reinneck and Ally Cantrill added 14 and 11 points, respectively.

Eureka (5-14, 2-6 SLIAC) will next host Blackburn (2-16, 0-8 SLIAC) inside Christine Bonati Bollwinkle Arena on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
