Aurora Pulls Away from Eureka, 98-63

AURORA – Aurora pulled away from the Eureka women's basketball team in an afternoon non-conference matchup on Wednesday, 98-63.

Eureka's Abby Stotler (Wyoming, Ill./Stark County) tallied season-high 16 points while gathering seven boards and distributing three assists. The senior shot 5-for-11 from the field and made 6 of 8 free throws.

Sydney Hannam (Canton, Ill./Canton/Spoon River) followed with 15 points, and Savanah Moore (Clinton, Ill./Mount Pulaski/MacMurray) added 12 points, along with seven rebounds. Madi Jernigan (Bartonville, Ill./Limestone/Blackburn) contributed seven points, five rebounds, two steals and an assist.

The Red Devils and the Spartans were neck-and-neck for most of the first quarter, with the home team taking a three-point edge into the second quarter. Aurora led by as many as 14 points in the second quarter and held a 40-29 lead at halftime.

In the third, however, the Spartans racked up 45 points on 68.2 percent and made 12 of 14 free-throws to put the game away.

Aurora's Gabrielle Wolff posted a game-high 18 points in 16 minutes off the bench. Macy Kocen (15 points), Selena Vargas (11) and Eliot Dojutrek (10) all reached double figures.

With the win, the Spartans improved to 8-2 on the season.

The Red Devils (2-7) will return to the court on Friday when they host Knox (6-3) at Christine Bonati Bollwinkle Arena and Convocation Center on Friday at 1 p.m.
