EC Women’s Basketball Picked Sixth in SLIAC Preseason Poll

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Eureka women's basketball team has been selected sixth in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference preseason poll.

The Red Devils received 20 points in the poll, which was conducted by league coaches, the SLIAC announced on Tuesday.

Webster topped the field with 46 points, claiming five of eight first-place votes.

The three-time defending league champion Gorloks finished five points ahead of Westminster (41), which received one first-place vote. Greenville was third with 40 points and two first-place votes.

Spalding and Fontbonne were fourth and fifth with 29 and 26 points, respectively.

Blackburn came seven points behind the Red Devils with 13 points, and Principia rounded out the poll with nine points.

This will be the Red Devils' third season under head coach Jaylynn Stewart. Last winter, Eureka went 11-14 on the season and 7-7 in SLIAC play to finish fifth overall.

The Red Devils return several key contributors from last year's team, including six seniors in Shakaya Rogers (Hanover, Mich./Concord)., Sydney Hannam (Canton, Ill./Canton), Savanah Moore (Clinton, Ill./Mount Pulaski), Abby Stotler (Wyoming, Ill./Stark County), Marissa Murphy (Canton, Ill./Canton) and Madison Jernigan (Bartonville, Ill./Limestone).

On Friday, EC women's basketball will compete with and against EC men's basketball in a Maroon Madness intrasquad scrimmage after EC volleyball's Senior Night showdown against Fontbonne.

The Red Devils' 2022-23 season will officially begin on Friday, Nov. 11 at 6 p.m. at Dubuque.
