Greenville Pulls Away From Red Devils, 79-64

EUREKA – Shakaya Rogers (Hanover, Mich./Concord/Glen Oaks) scored a career-high 23 points, but the Red Devils couldn't take down Greenville at Reagan Athletic Complex on Tuesday.

The Red Devils fell short, 79-64, on Tuesday after a competitive first gave way to a momentum-swinging third quarter for the Panthers.

Rogers shot 9-for-14 from the field and went 5-for-7 from the free-throw line while dishing a team-high four assists and grabbing three rebounds in the loss. Sydney Hannam (Canton, Ill./Canton/Spoon River) followed with 14 points on 5-of-9 shooting.

Olivia Falls (Bloomington, Ill./Bloomington) pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds and was one point shy of a double-double, while Abby Stotler (Wyoming, Ill./Stark County/MacMurray) added seven points and six rebounds.

The Red Devils led by as many as 12 points in in the first quarter and held a four-point advantage at halftime. The team shot 50 percent in the first frame and tallied a team-best 20 points. EC cooled down a little bit in the second quarter but stayed ahead.

The Panthers, however, got off to a hot start in the third quarter, quickly taking the lead and expanding it in a hurry. The visitors shot 13-for-19 from the field (68.4 percent) and amassed 33 points in 10 minutes.

By the fourth, Eureka was down 16 points. The Red Devils whittled it down to 10 after Madison Jernagin (Bartonville, Ill./Limestone/Blackburn) connected from deep with 3:22 left. The home team wasn't able to cut into the deficit any more from there.

Ashley Anderson and Madelyn Stephen each put up 18 for the Panthers. Haven Robertson was right behind them with 17 points and Payten Morris notched 13 and a team-high nine rebounds. Emily Reinneck dished a game-high six assists.

Eureka (5-9, 1-3 SLIAC) will next take on Westminster (10-8, 6-1) on the road on Saturday at 1 p.m.
