Red Devils Drop Cruzin’ Classic Opener to Grove City, 82-59

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The Eureka women's basketball team's Cruzin' Classic began with an 82-59 loss against Grove City on Thursday afternoon.

Olivia Falls (Bloomington, Ill./Bloomington) tallied 19 points in the loss for the Red Devils. The senior shot 7-for-10 from the floor, gathered a team-high eight rebounds, a team-high three steals, an assist and a block.

Junior Sydney Hannam (Canton, Ill./Canton) added nine points, while Shakaya Rogers (Hanover, Mich./Concord) followed with seven, Savanah Moore (Clinton, Ill./Mt. Pulaski) had seven and Abby Stotler (Wyoming, Ill./Stark County) and Josie Ness (Sandwich, Ill./Sandwich) chipped in with four.

Freshman Hannah Burkiett (Elmwood, Ill./Elmwood) scored a bucket for two points, too.

Rogers distributed a team-high three assists and tallied a team-high three blocks.

The Red Devils trailed by 20 points at halftime, but they managed to whittle it down to nine after starting the third quarter off with an 11-0 run.

Grove City answered and extended the lead back to 14. A Murphy jumper off an assist by Moore with 3:37 left in the fourth would trim it to nine again, but that was as close as the Red Devils would come.

Grove City's Allison Podkul and Clara Hannon scored 14 and 12 points, respectively.

Eureka (2-5) will look to bounce back in a rematch against the Wolverines on Friday at 1 p.m. CT.
