Red Devils Bury Blackburn on the Road, 92-68

CARLINVILLE, Ill. – The Eureka women's basketball team reached 90 points for the first time this spring and secured a St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference season sweep in a 92-68 win over Blackburn on Wednesday.

Five Red Devils reached double figures in the road win, with Abby Stotler (Wyoming, Ill./Stark County) leading the way. The sophomore tallied 17 points, nine rebounds and four assists.

Alaina Vance (Camp Point, Ill./Central) followed with 13 points on 5-of-8 shooting from the floor and 3-of-5 shooting from distance, along with six rebounds, four assists and three. Savanah Moore (Clinton, Ill./Clinton) contributed 12 points, four rebounds and three assists in her first career start.

Olivia Falls (Bloomington, Ill./Bloomington) posted a double-double of 11 points and 12 rebounds while going 5-for-5 from the free-throw line.

Shakaya Rogers (Hanover, Mich./Concord) added 11 points, six rebounds and five assists and hit a pair of 3-poitners off the bench and Whitney Bozarth (Normal, Ill./Normal West) went 3-for-4 from beyond the arc and finished with nine points.

The Red Devils got off to a good start, quickly building a sizable lead and holding the Beavers scoreless for six minutes. By the end of EC's 15-0 run, the visitors held a 20-3 lead. A jumper by Moore off a dish by Rogers made it 25-7 heading into the second quarter.

Blackburn improved from 14.3 percent shooting in the first quarter to 46.7 percent in the second, but the Beavers weren't able to make up ground on the Red Devils. Eureka went into the half with a firm 41-25 lead.

Then, in the second half, the Red Devils went off for 26 points in the third quarter and 25 in the fourth while shooting 55 percent from the field.

Eureka buried the home team in the third quarter by going 9-for-15 from the floor and 6-for-7 from distance. Bozarth knocked down three triples, Rogers hit two and Vance made one. Rogers' 3 on a feed by Bozarth with 2:38 left in the third gave EC a game-high 29-point lead.

With 26 assists, Eureka tied a season-high, dishing its most since the team's 89-61 win at Iowa Wesleyan on March 6. The team also turned in its best 3-point shooting night of the season, making 48 percent of their tries from distance.

On Saturday evening, the Red Devils (6-6, 5-4 SLIAC) will look to close out the regular season on a winning note when they host Webster (8-1, 7-1 SLIAC) at Christine Bonati Bollwinkle Arena and Convocation Center. Tipoff time is to be determined.
