Eureka continues winning ways against Spalding

EUREKA, Ill. – Senior Emily Camden (Green Valley, Ill./Midwest Central) continued to add to her all-time three-point field goal and point totals, scoring a team-high 16 points and leading the Eureka College women's basketball to a 65-60 St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference victory over the Spalding Golden Eagles, Wednesday night inside the Christine Bonati Bollwinkle Arena and Convocation Center.

The victory is Eureka's fourth in a row and moves the Red Devils to 7-11 overall and 6-5 in league action. Spalding falls to 12-6 overall and 6-5 in conference play.

Camden now sits at 974 career points, 26 points shy of 1,000 for her career. The sharp-shooting guard added a trio of treys in the victory to bring her career total to 190. She is now six three-point field goals shy of breaking the women's all-time record for three-point field goals made in a career held by Brittany Gardner (195).

Mimicking their start against Greenville last Wednesday, Eureka started the contest strong with a quick 5-0 burst to race in front. The Red Devils controlled the first quarter action, holding Spalding to six points and building an 18-6 lead at the break.

EC sustained a Spalding run in the second quarter that brought the score within six, and pushed their lead back to double-digits before settling for a 32-23 halftime edge.

Spalding sliced the deficit to five points early on in third quarter, but again the Red Devils rallied and pushed their lead back to double figures, 51-37, heading into the final quarter of action.

SU climbed back over the final five minutes of play, cutting the lead to three points on two separate occasions under the final minute of play. Junior guard Kelsey Forysthe (Pleasant Plains, Ill./Pleasant Plains [Lincoln Land CC]) hit all four of her free throw shots down the stretch to keep the hosts in front for good.

Sophomore Kerrigan Dura (Brimfield, Ill./Brimfield) and freshman Lexi Dooley (Sutter, Ill./Warsaw) each tacked on eleven points and eight rebounds apiece for the Red Devils.

The Golden Eagles were led by Mackenzie Myers and Alex Martin who had 16 and 15 points, respectively, with Myers scoring 11 of her 16 points in the second half.
