Red Devils’ Season Ends at Greenville

GREENVILLE, IL. – The Eureka softball team concluded their season on Saturday with a doubleheader against Greenville.  The Panthers secured a 3-1 victory in Game 1 and rallied to a 9-0 win over the Red Devils in Game 2.

The Red Devils concluded the season with a 10-28 overall record, having gone 2-14 during SLIAC play. Saturday marked the final competition in a Red Devils' uniform for four graduating/departing players, including Carmen Howard (Warrensburg, Ill./Warrensburg-Latham), Kloe Norris (Manito, Ill./Midwest Central), Kacy Dunlap (Mount Sterling, Ill./Brown County/Lincoln), and Macey Whisker (Washington, Ill./Washington/ICC) who were honored the previous weekend on Senior Day. 

 

GAME 1 | Eureka 1, Greenville 3

The Red Devils could not hold on to an early lead in Greenville, falling 3-1 to the Panthers.

Rachel Dawson (Stanford, Ill.) made her sixth start of the season, allowing 3 runs on 4 hits in 3.0 innings of work.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Red Devils got the bats going early with a leadoff triple by Macey WhiskerGada Bryant (Westville. Ill./Bismark-Henning/Rossville-Alvin/Lincoln) grounded out in the following at bat, scoring Whisker, to give Eureka an early 1-0 lead.

Greenville responded in the bottom half of the first with three runs of their own to take a 3-1 lead. 

The bats remained silent for the rest of the game, allowing the Panthers to secure a 3-1 victory.

 

GAME 2 | Eureka 0, Greenville 9

The Red Devils fell behind early in the second game of the afternoon and were unable to make up the deficit, falling 9-0 to Greenville in five innings.

Kloe Norris got the start in the second game in her final game as a Red Devil and went the distance, allowing 9 earned runs on 9 hits in 4.0 innings of work. Norris also recorded 2 strikeouts during the game. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Panthers secured an early lead, scoring three runs in the first inning, followed by two in the second, and four more in the fourth, resulting in a 9-0 advantage over the Red Devils. 

Despite their efforts, the Red Devils managed just two hits in the second game, facing strong pitching from Greenville.
