CLAYTON, Mo. – The Eureka men's soccer team failed to find the back of the net on Wednesday night, falling 2-0 to Fontbonne.
Fontbonne jumped out to an early lead, scoring the first goal of the match in the 9th minute. Despite 20 shots between the two teams, the score remained 1-0 entering halftime. Eureka had more opportunities in the second half, but it was Fontbonne who netted the next goal, extending their lead to 2-0. The Red Devils pushed late in an attempt to make a comeback but could not find a goal.
Fontbonne outshot Eureka 24-15 and had 11 shots on goal compared to 10 for Eureka. Uli Castaneda (Bloomington, Ill./Normal West) was the Red Devils' biggest attacking threat, logging 6 shots, 4 of which were on target. Brayton Strawkas (Buffalo, Ill./Tri-City) made his fifth consecutive start in goal for the Red Devils and recorded 9 saves.
