Men’s Soccer Defeats MUW

EUREKA, Ill. – Two early goals by the Eureka men's soccer team helped them secure their first SLIAC win of the season, defeating MUW 3-0.

Daniel Jüeliger (London, UK/Netherhall Secondary School) opened the scoring in the 7th minute, capitalizing on a corner kick that bounced out to him. He struck the ball into the top right corner, giving the Red Devils a 1-0 lead. Joyce Kabesa (Bloomington, Ill./Bloomington) quickly added a second goal for Eureka, finishing a setup from Michael DeCarlo (Bourbonnais, Ill./Bradley-Bourbonnais) just outside the 6-yard box to extend the lead to 2-0, which they maintained into halftime.

The Red Devils were dominant in the second half, recording 23 shots compared to just 1 for the Owls, but they struggled to find a third goal. Finally, they broke through when Cole Hays (Evansville, Ind./Harrison) scored his first collegiate goal off a corner from Uli Castaneda (Bloomington, Ill./Normal West) in the 71st minute, extending the lead to 3-0. Eureka held that lead until the final whistle, winning 3-0.

Eureka outshot MUW 38-3 and placed 14 shots on target, while MUW did not register any. Kabesa led the Red Devils with 7 shots, 4 of which were on target.
